Job summary

AmeriVet Animal Emergency of Gainesville is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians and technicians in examinations, treatments, and emergency procedures.

You will handle patients safely, assist with medications, collect samples, and help maintain accurate medical records while educating clients on care and aftercare. A flexible schedule including overnights, weekends, and holidays is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a veterinary assistant.
• Previous small animal emergency and critical care experience (3+ years) preferred.
• Strong animal handling and restraint skills, with knowledge of veterinary procedures.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and licensed technicians with examinations, treatments, and surgeries.
• Safely handle and restrain patients; administer medications and vaccines as directed.
• Collect lab samples, perform basic diagnostics, and maintain medical records.
• Educate clients on pet care, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
