Job summary

Animal Emergency of Gainesville in Gainesville, GA, is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our emergency and critical care team. You will assist veterinarians and licensed technicians with examinations, treatments, and surgeries, and help manage ICU patients.

You will safely restrain and medicate animals, collect lab samples, perform basic diagnostics, educate clients on care and discharge instructions, and maintain a clean, organized workspace.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience as a veterinary assistant required.
• 3+ years of small animal emergency and critical care experience preferred.
• Strong animal handling and restraint skills, with knowledge of veterinary clinical procedures.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
• Proficiency with veterinary equipment, instruments, and industry-standard tools.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians with examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures in accordance with the Scope of Practice established by the Georgia State Board of Veterinary Medicine.
• Safely handle and restrain patients; administer medications and vaccines as directed and permitted by the Scope of Practice.
• Collect laboratory samples, perform basic diagnostics as assigned, and maintain accurate medical records.
• Educate clients on pet care, treatment plans, and discharge instructions as appropriate.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked work environment.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overnights, weekends, and holidays.
