BluePearl Pet Hospital in Christiana, DE is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department.

Pay: $19.00 - $28.00/hour

This pay band is a starting point and depends on experience and advancement through our leveling system. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

We offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked during nights and weekends, based on a 4-hour minimum.

For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = $3.50 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $5.00 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $3.50 Shift Differential

Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases, assist DVM with crafting and reviewing estimates, perform diagnostics (radiographs, lab work, etc.), set patients up in ICU or inpatient wards, discharge patients, and handle client communication.

As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant, you will:

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list, and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of common medications, side effects, and monitor therapeutic responses.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and durations.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Conduct physical exams, including heart rate, pulse, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort.
• Assist with anesthesia/monitoring equipment for ASA I or II classified patients.
• Stay current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency as assigned.
