Job summary

MedVet Medical & Cancer Centers for Pets seeks an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced ER team. You will assist the DVM, monitor hospitalized patients, and support clients with care instructions and updates.

Ideal candidates bring veterinary and emergency experience, strong calculation skills, and the ability to thrive under pressure while communicating clearly with clients and teammates.

Qualifications

• Prior veterinary experience is required; emergency experience preferred.
• Strong math skills for drug calculations and dosing.
• Flexible with hours and able to work overtime when needed.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced ER setting and communicate clearly.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Collaborate with care team on treatment plans and nursing care.
• Educate clients on home care, medications, and hospital updates.
• Assist DVM with assessment, treatment, and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-hospital lab testing and prepare samples.

We are looking for: Emergency Veterinary Assistant

Whatyou’lldo:

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss case s and gather additional information as necessary
• Evaluating incoming patients and prioritizing based on assessment
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns
• Provide client education including, but not limited to home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in-hospital laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Whoyou are:

• Prior veterinary experience required;previous emergency experience desired
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
