Job summary

Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in Omaha is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to jump into action from day one, supporting the team, comforting pet parents, and learning in real time. You will be involved in triage, treatments, and the path toward credentialed technician goals.

You’ll work with doctors and technicians across the care spectrum, assisting with anesthesia, imaging, and critical care, while growing through guided training opportunities in a high-energy hospital

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR familiarity.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Able to stand for long hours and lift up to 25 kg (40 kg with assistance).
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays in a fast-paced hospital.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients, guiding them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics including bloodwork and imaging.
• Work with credentialed technicians and veterinarians on anesthesia and sedation setups.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
• Assist during every moment of care: outpatient or inpatient from exam room to treatment area.
• Join patient rounds to ensure continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and become a RECOVER Certified Rescuer (training provided).
• Grow into advanced roles via guided training pathways.
