Job summary

VEG is hiring a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support our team in fast-paced ER settings. You will calm pet parents, triage patients, and participate in the full spectrum of emergency care from triage to treatment.

Expect hands-on learning, mentorship, and growth opportunities as you work with credentialed technicians and veterinarians, with training provided for CPR and RECOVER certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR software knowledge.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and medical equipment.
• Stand for prolonged hours; lift up to 25 kg; assist up to 40 kg.
• Willing to work in a noisy environment with odors.
• Available for nights, weekends, and holidays on rotating basis.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics from bloodwork to imaging.
• Set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation with clinicians.
• Assist with IV fluids, transfusions, and medication administration.
• Support care in outpatient or inpatient settings, from exam to treatment.
• Join patient rounds and maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER Certified Rescuer training.
• Grow into advanced duties through guided training pathways.
• Comply with state law.
