Ottumwa Regional Health Center - Emergency Services Manager

Responsibilities
- Must be able to perform all duties of a paramedic for Ottumwa Regional Health Center
- Adjust schedule to meet unit's needs
- Maintain RN licensure/Paramedic certification
- Coordinate QI activities on the unit, assist in review, development, and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards, and monitor consistent application
- Function as a crew member and maintain adequate department staffing as per service agreement with the State of Iowa EMS Bureau
- Serve as Service Director for ORMICS and as a service representative for ORHC in the Wapello County Healthcare Coalition
- Serve on the Emergency Management Council and other committees as directed by EMS Director
- Manage and maintain ORMICS run report system program and perform QA on run audits
- Demonstrate ability in the care and handling of patients of all ages, including consideration of special needs and behavior of each group
- Know all procedures per DOT curricula and Iowa scope of practice for each EMS provider level
- Have adequate BLS skills (CPR, oxygen administration, immobilization, history taking, radio skills, assessment)
- Have adequate ALS skills and assessments (IV and IO initiation, ACLS and PALS proficiency, drug administration, cardiac monitor interpretation, electrical therapy, 12 lead ECG, endotracheal intubation)
- Demonstrate KingLT insertion
- Demonstrate competence during life‑threatening situations, correctly interpret situations and act per protocol
- Drive in a manner that does not endanger bystanders, patients, or other drivers and avoid collisions
- Have adequate lifting skills for most patients
- Proficient in operation of 911 phone system, voice recorder, radios (base/mobiles/portables), and other dispatch phones
- Be able to function in the Incident Command role on field emergencies or mass casualty events
- Read ORMICS map book and correctly use GPS in ambulances
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
- Experience: One to two years of previous management experience preferred; three years of clinical experience in specialty area(s) preferred; pre‑hospital patient care experience as an RN‑exempt or paramedic preferred
- Certifications: Current valid Class C Iowa Driver’s License, current valid Iowa Paramedic Certification, or RN License with ability to obtain RN‑exempt status; current BCLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
