Job summary

Ottumwa Regional Health Center is seeking an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for a part-time night shift. Schedule is 2x12, Nights (7p-7a), rotating weekends, with team-based EMS duties and ED support.

The role involves assisting triage, patient transport, and QA tasks, under ED physician or RN direction, with opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Current Iowa EMT certification required.
• Valid Iowa Class D driver's license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Experience in ED or EMS settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in triage and ED patient flow under supervision.
• Function as EMS team member and support EKG/Code 0 teams.
• Transport patients to procedures or inpatient units.
• Complete run audits and QA assignments monthly.
• Attend staff meetings, training and participate in committees.

How you'll contribute

An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) who excels in this role:

• - Functions as a team member as an EKG tech, Code 0 team member, Dr. Red (fire) team, Dr. Armstrong (security) team, Hazmat team.
• - Takes an assistant role in triage as requested by team leader.
• - Demonstrates ability to assist with ED patients from triage to discharge under the direction of the ED physician or RN.
• - Performs procedures within their EMS Scope of practice.
• - Transports patients to procedures or hospital inpatient units upon admission.
• - Participates in precepting EMS students, job shadowing opportunities and public tours to make a positive impression of EMS. Actively demonstrates clinical professionalism while precepting new employees.
• - Completes run audits and QA assignments monthly.
• - Attends staff meetings, run reviews, mandatory education and participates in committee activities.
• - Run report documentation and charge batching

What we're looking for

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
• Certifications: Current valid Class D (Chauffeurs) Iowa driver's license and current valid Iowa EMT certification as applicable. Must also submit motor vehicle record to People Services department during screening process, Current BCLS, Iowa Mandatory Reporter - Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Certificate Experience: (paid or volunteer) as a FR or EMT preferred.
