The role emphasizes safety culture, high reliability, and evidence-based practice, including acting as Director of Emergency Services when needed. Requires EN/ED certifications and 3+ years ED experience.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing.
• License/Certification: Must have valid, current nursing license to practice in the U.S., Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
• Must maintain current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP within 1 year, TNCC within 1 year, ENPC within 1 year, CEN within 3 years, NIHSS within 6 months, Patient Sitter Competency, ENA-ESI Level 5 within 3 months, NIMS within 6 months.
• Experience: Must have three (3) years of nursing experience with two (2) years in the Emergency Department and one (1) as charge nurse.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct observation of patients as directed by the nursing plan of care and under the supervision of the nursing department Director.
• Mentor nursing staff to create, maintain and provide a safe environment.
• Maintain safety of patients during assigned shifts.
• Assist in the management of high-acuity, trauma, STEMI, stroke, sepsis, behavioral health and pediatric patients.
• Assist with patient flow and prioritization of resources during periods of high census.
• Facilitate safe patient assignments in collaboration with the Charge Nurse.
• Support nursing staff with clinical decision making and escalation of care.
• Provide bedside coaching and mentoring to nurses and CNAs.
• Support orientation and onboarding of newly hired staff.
• Assist nurses in developing critical thinking and clinical judgment.
• Conducts in real-time education and competency reinforcement.
• Models professional nursing practice and customer service.
• Facilitate effective communication among providers, nursing staff, ancillary departments and administration.
• Lead the team in identifying, distributing and balancing workload and tasks.
• Educates team members in team building and training; arrange for necessary training.
• Support implementation of operational changes and initiatives.
• Monitor and report on status and progress of work; prepare reports for the Director.
