Job summary

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam.
• 3 years of experience in insurance information collection/assessment, benefits verification, and preauthorization processing.
• Associate’s Degree in Health Care Management, OR related field with coursework in medical billing, health care data collection, reimbursement, and/or professional service recovery.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English in a professional manner.
• Demonstrated skills in customer service, collecting patient demographic and insurance/payor information, and cash collection.
• Expertise in interviewing patients/family members.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Pass PSR pre-employment screening with 75%+ and post-employment test with 80%+.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a primary contact for the Emergency Department, the Trauma Team, and Life Flight patients.
• Resolves issues related to scheduling, registration, benefits verification, and payor preauthorization.
• Responds as a member of the Trauma Activation Team by obtaining and verifying patient information.
• Achieves optimal reimbursement through registration, benefits verification, payor preauthorization, payment arrangements, and cash collection for outpatient and Life Flight services.
• Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.
