Job summary

Washington State Department of Agriculture in Olympia, WA is seeking an Occupational Safety and Health Specialist 2 to oversee statewide emergency preparedness, OSHA and WISHA compliance, and safety initiatives within the Enterprise Risk Management Division.

The role coordinates with state/federal agencies, develops plans, and leads training, PPE programs, and incident response. Salary range $67,704–$88,788 annually, based in Olympia.

Qualifications

  • Must hold and maintain a valid WA State driver's license.
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, safety studies, natural science, business or public administration, education or allied field.
  • Three years of professional experience in occupational safety and health.
  • A master’s degree may substitute for two of the three years of experience; equivalent education/experience accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, implement, and sustain an internal emergency preparedness program for the agency.
  • Develop and administer critical emergency preparedness functions and procedures.
  • Oversee and sustain a functional Emergency preparedness program.
  • Coordinate and direct the agency ID card program.
  • Provide quality emergency preparedness updates.
  • Implement active communication and educational materials.
  • Ensure a safe workplace and conduct site visits.
  • Provide expert PPE advice and guidance.
  • Maintain department-wide emergency plans, evacuations, and SOPs.
  • Coordinate weather and disaster notifications to leadership as needed.
  • Research state and federal rules and provide technical support for emergency programs.
  • Oversee WSDA Emergency Operations Center when requested.

Education

Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health
Master's degree in occupational safety and health/related field (substitution for experience)
Three years of professional experience in occupational safety and health
