Job summary

Beloit Health System at Beloit Memorial Hospital seeks an Emergency Patient Care Technician to support the Emergency Department while pursuing Paramedic education. You will work under supervision to assist nursing staff, handle supplies, and help maintain patient safety and charting accuracy.

Ideal candidates hold EMT-B (or equivalent) licensure, CPR certification, and strong communication skills, with a willingness to work varied shifts and hours.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of EMT-basic course with active licensure in WI or National.
• Active enrollment in Paramedic Student program with full-time student status and passing grades.
• Requires working irregular hours.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Two years' clinical experience preferred.
• Maintains knowledge of and ability to operate all equipment.
• CPR certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist nursing and healthcare staff in patient care duties and clinical tasks.
• Assist with supply ordering and stocking of treatment rooms.
• Assist with unit cleaning and maintaining infection control policies.
• Collect data: vital signs, intake/output, weights, and interventions.
• Transport patients and ensure safety during movements.
• Perform appropriate charting and maintain patient privacy.

Beloit Health System at Beloit Memorial Hospital has an exciting opportunity for an Emergency Patient Care Technician. This exciting opportunity will allow you to work as part of our Emergency Department Team while pursuing additional education to become a Paramedic at no additional cost to you.

• Shift: Varied/Per Diem
• Schedule: 12 hour shift, varied start times
• Hours per week: Varied/Per Diem
• Benefits Status: Not Eligible
• Department: Emergency Services

The Emergency Patient Care Technician will assist the professional nursing staff or other healthcare professionals in performance of a variety of patient care duties, supply ordering, stocking of treatment rooms and unit cleaning – all to complement the practice of nursing and Emergency Physicians.

The Emergency Patient Care Technician:

• Applies specialty knowledge to patient care situations such as:
  • Ability to perform straight catheterization
  • Collect specimens
  • Splint application
  • Suture set up
  • Instruction on crutch walking
  • Eye irrigations with saline
  • Perform EKGs
  • Ability to draw blood
  • Wound care and dressings
  • Transporting patients
  • Appropriate charting
• Participates in QA monitoring such as monthly chart audits.
• Strictly adheres to infection control policies including body substance isolation, blood borne pathogen precautions and aseptic techniques.
• Performs unit specific duties according to established policies and procedures.
• Collecting and recording of data-intakes and outputs, vital signs (including orthostatics), weights, as well as any interventions, procedures, and/or observations.
• Maintains patient privacy.
• Reports any changes in patient condition or unusual occurrences to RN.
• Ensures patient safety while handling and transporting patients.
• Protect patients from various hazards, falls, disease exposure, and injury.
• Performs hourly rounding and uses whiteboards evident by monthly self-audits.

Job Requirements:

• Successful completion of EMT-basic course, with current/active EMT or A-EMT licensure in WI or National.
• Active enrollment in participating Paramedic Student program with full time student status with a passing grade of C or above in all enrolled classes.
• Requires working sometimes irregular hours.
• Requires excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Two years' clinical experience preferred.
• Maintains knowledge of and ability to operate all equipment.
• Assures timely completion of assigned duties.
• Must be CPR certified.
