Job summary

Beloit Health System at Beloit Memorial Hospital is seeking an Emergency Department Technician to join our Emergency Services team. You will work alongside nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide direct patient care in a fast-paced emergency department.

The role requires EMT-B or CNA certification (or student nurse in senior year) with CPR within 3 months of hire, and may involve irregular hours and phlebotomy duties. Benefits eligible and on-site environment.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of EMT-basic course, completion of CNA program, or equivalent military experience with current EMT-B or CNA certification, or Student Nurse in senior year of nursing program.
  • Requires working sometimes irregular hours.
  • Two years' clinical experience preferred.
  • Must be CPR certified within 3 months of hire.
  • Ability to work independently and to react calmly and effectively in emergency situation.
  • Must complete phlebotomy training.
  • Must complete occupational health training for post-accidents.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care and support under the direction of licensed healthcare professionals.
  • Perform specialty procedures including straight catheterization, specimen collection, splint application, suture setup, crutch-walking instruction, eye irrigation, EKGs, and phlebotomy.
  • Assist with wound care and dressing changes.
  • Collect and document patient vital signs, orthostatic measurements, weights, intake/output data, observations, interventions, and procedures.
  • Safely transport patients throughout the facility while ensuring comfort and security.
  • Communicate changes in patient condition or unusual findings promptly to the RN.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, including monthly chart audits.
  • Adhere to infection prevention practices, bloodborne pathogen precautions, body substance isolation protocols, and aseptic techniques.
  • Perform hourly rounding and maintain patient communication tools, including room whiteboards.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standards.
  • Help prevent falls, injuries, disease exposure, and other patient safety risks.
  • Perform unit-specific responsibilities according to established policies and procedures.
  • Assist with supply stocking, treatment room readiness, and department organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Emergency Department Technician supports the professional nursing staff and Emergency Department physicians by performing a variety of patient care and clinical support duties. The Emergency Department Technician responsibilities include assisting with direct patient care, supply management, stocking treatment rooms, and maintaining a clean, safe environment. This role complements the delivery of emergency care through CNA-level patient support, laboratory specimen collection, EKGs, BAT/UDS testing, IV assistance, wound care, orthopedic support, and other clinical procedures.
