Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Salisbury VA Medical Center, seeks a Medical Officer of the Day to manage ED evaluations, stabilization, and disposition. The role combines clinical care with administrative duties to support the Emergency Department’s 24/7 operations.

The position requires EM board certification, completed EM residency, and an unrestricted US medical license, with responsibilities including supervision of trainees and participation in quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Must hold MD or DO degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine.
• Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a US state or territory.
• Residency training in emergency medicine or equivalent with board eligibility/ certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in the Emergency Department on assigned tours.
• Supervise medical students or residents rotating through the ED when applicable.
• Maintain BLS/ACLS; EM board certification and ongoing education.
• Participate in committees, peer review, and ED performance improvement activities.
• Collaborate with nursing and ancillary staff to ensure patient flow and care quality.
