Job summary

Inova Franconia Springfield Healthplex is seeking a dedicated Emergency Medical Technician 2 to join the Emergency Department team. This PRN, as-needed role requires flexibility as shifts vary.

The incumbent will document patient records, assist with procedures and support mid-level providers and physicians. Training is provided, and a six-week paid program is included to ensure readiness for patient care duties.

Qualifications

• 1 year of EMT-B experience is required.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS from American Heart Association required; EMT-B; must be active on NREMT or possess Virginia EMT license/certification.
• Able to read, write, speak and understand English; computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Document all required fields in medical records and charges.
• Apply orthopedic splints as needed.
• Collect patient specimens following policies.
• Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies to support patient care.
• Assist with patient transport for testing, admission/discharge and interfacility transfers per policy.
• Perform 12 lead ECG and monitor patients.
• Perform phlebotomy following policies.
• Provide wound care and assist with physician/nurse care as needed.
• May perform additional duties as assigned.

The Emergency Medical Technician 2 provides accurate documentation of all procedures and therapies in patients' medical records and all specimens. Assists mid-level providers and physicians with collecting, labeling and transporting irretrievable specimens. Cleans and dresses wounds per physician orders and performs surgical preparation of wounds according to protocol and assists with application/removal of sutures.
Emergency Medical Technician 2 Job Responsibilities:

• Documents all required fields in medical records, computer entries and charges.
• Applies orthopedic splinting devices.
• Collects patient specimens following department/facility policies and procedures.
• Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies to optimize delivery of patient care and treatment.
• Assists with patient transport for testing, admission/discharge, interfacility and aeromedical (per policy of Operating Unit).
• Performs 12 lead ECG and places patients on continuous cardiac monitoring.
• Performs patient phlebotomy following department/facility policies and procedures.
• Provides wound care according to department clinical practice standards and acts as a resource to physicians and nurses to assist with optimum care.
• May perform additional duties as assigned.
• Training:Must be available for six (6) weeks of paid training,consisting of,
  • Virtual modules
  • Classroom-style sessions: 8AM – 4:30PM
  • On-unit training with department hired into (times TBD)

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience: 1 year of EMT-B experience
• Education: High School Diploma or GED
• Certification:
  • BLS from American Heart Association
  • EMT-B; must either be active on the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or possess a current Virginia EMTLicense/Certification
• Special Skills: Able to read, write, speak and understand English. Computer skills.
