Job summary

Inova Franconia Springfield Healthplex in Northern Virginia is seeking an Emergency Medical Technician 2 to join the Emergency Department. This PRN, as-needed role offers shifting hours and a fast-paced clinical environment.

The EMT-2 documents care in medical records, assists with specimen collection and wound care, and supports physicians and mid-level providers. Must have EMT-B, BLS, and Virginia/NREMT certification; six weeks of paid training provided.

Qualifications

• EMT-B certification and BLS required.
• One year EMT-B experience preferred or as stated in job post.
• Must read, write and understand English.

• Documents all required fields in medical records and charges.
• Assists with patient transport for testing and admission/discharge.
• Performs wound care and phlebotomy per policy.
• Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies.

The Emergency Medical Technician 2 provides accurate documentation of all procedures and therapies in patients' medical records and all specimens. Assists mid-level providers and physicians with collecting, labeling and transporting irretrievable specimens. Cleans and dresses wounds per physician orders and performs surgical preparation of wounds according to protocol and assists with application/removal of sutures.

Emergency Medical Technician 2 Job Responsibilities

• Documents all required fields in medical records, computer entries and charges.
• Applies orthopedic splinting devices.
• Collects patient specimens following department/facility policies and procedures.
• Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies to optimize delivery of patient care and treatment.
• Assists with patient transport for testing, admission/discharge, interfacility and aeromedical (per policy of Operating Unit).
• Performs 12 lead ECG and places patients on continuous cardiac monitoring.
• Performs patient phlebotomy following department/facility policies and procedures.
• Provides wound care according to department clinical practice standards and acts as a resource to physicians and nurses to assist with optimum care.
• May perform additional duties as assigned.

• Training: Must be available for six (6) weeks of paid training, consisting of,
  • Virtual modules
  • Classroom-style sessions: 8AM – 4:30PM
  • On-unit training with department hired into (times TBD)

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience: 1 year of EMT-B experience
• Education: High School Diploma or GED
• Certification:
  • BLS from American Heart Association
  • EMT-B; must either be active on the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or possess a current Virginia EMT License/Certification
• Special Skills: Able to read, write, speak and understand English. Computer skills.
