The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) position serves as a member of the Missouri – 1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team (MO-1 DMAT). This position is responsible for performing a limited range of health care duties during a disaster or major emergency. The position reports directly to a Supervisory Paramedic or Supervisory Nurse when deployed and to the Chief Paramedic administratively.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform basic life support and first aid procedures, including monitoring vital signs and checking pupillary response.
• Under supervision, assist with CPR, splinting, wound dressing, and other emergency procedures.
• Secure emergency equipment and provide patient comfort and care.
• Monitor patients' physical and behavioral conditions, report changes, and record observations.
• Assist in transporting and evacuating patients using litters or other means.
• Collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Valid and unrestricted EMT license in Missouri.
• Preferably one year of experience related to NDMS Response Team, at least GS-04 level.
• Completion of NIMS courses: ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-700, and ICS-800.
• Degree or diploma from an approved National Registry EMT program.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of NIMS Incident Command System and disaster response organizations.
• Ability to lead and manage staff, develop strategic plans, and communicate effectively.
• Skilled in critical thinking, report writing, and organizational planning.
• Ability to handle high-pressure situations and work in austere environments.

Physical Requirements

• Heavy lifting up to 80 lbs, long periods of standing/walking, bending, and working in various climates.
• Respond quickly to sounds, see and respond to dangers, and wear protective gear for extended periods.

Work Environment

Moderately high risks involved, including exposure to contagious diseases and dangerous situations. Protective clothing or gear is required.
