City of Abilene, Texas seeks a seasoned Emergency Management Leader to direct citywide disaster preparedness and response programs under the Fire Chief's supervision. You will oversee the Emergency Operations Center, coordinate staff and volunteers, and manage grants and partnerships to strengthen readiness and recovery capabilities.

The role requires a strong background in emergency planning, supervision, and compliance with local, state, and federal requirements, including NIMS/ICS training

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of emergency response or emergency management experience preferred.
• Two (2) years of supervisory experience required.
• ICNS NIMS courses 100, 200, 700, and 800 completed.
• ICNS 300 and 400 completed within one year of employment.

Responsabilités

• Maintain the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and related systems in a state of readiness.
• Direct Emergency Management staff and volunteers and coordinate activities.
• Identify and administer emergency management grants; coordinate damage assessments and claims.
• Serve as the City’s primary emergency management liaison with agencies and media.
• Manage the public warning and notification system; ensure compliance with requirements.
• Update the Emergency Operations Plan and annexes to reflect current standards.
• Develop and deliver emergency preparedness training for staff and community.
• Plan and participate in local, regional, and state exercises to evaluate readiness.
• Coordinate SKYWARN activities and weather-related communications.
