Job summary

The City of Indianapolis and Marion County is seeking an Emergency Management professional to support disaster planning, preparedness, and operations. You will assist with developing plans, coordinating with agencies, and aiding the EOC during incidents.

Candidates should have an associate degree or higher (or 2 years public safety experience), knowledge of NIMS, and the ability to work independently while communicating clearly.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in Criminal Justice or related field, or 2 years public safety experience.
  • Knowledge of Emergency Management and NIMS.
  • Ability to interpret laws and guidelines for disaster planning/operations.
  • Independent judgment in emergency response and recovery.
  • Proficiency with technology systems administration and process management.
  • Strong written and oral communication; plan development.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license; ability to operate 4WD/vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with developing and maintaining federal, state, and local requirements for emergency management.
  • Assist with grant program management and grant writing.
  • Respond to incident scenes or the EOC to assist with coordination.
  • Assist the EOC Manager with staffing, reports, resources, and tech during activations.
  • Monitor emergency activities in Marion County/City of Indianapolis.
  • Respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
  • Maintain workstations, equipment, procedures, and checklists for disaster or event.
  • Develop and maintain preparedness plans such as EOP and Multi-Hazard Mitigation plan.
  • Coordinate with government agencies to develop their parts of the EOP.
  • Prepare written and oral reports on procedures, projects, and activities.
