Job summary

The City of Indianapolis seeks an Emergency Management professional with an associate degree or equivalent and public safety experience to support disaster planning, incident response, and EOC operations. Strong understanding of NIMS and regulatory interpretation is required, with the ability to work with minimal supervision during incidents.

Responsibilities include grant management support, plan development, inter-agency coordination, and community outreach to enhance readiness.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, Fire Science, Public Safety Management, or equivalent or a minimum of two (2) years of public safety-related experience. Knowledge of Emergency Management and the National Incident Management System (NIMS). Ability to interpret Federal, State, and Local laws, regulations, and guidelines for disaster planning and operations.
• Must be able to exercise independent judgment and operate with minimal supervision during emergencies and disasters.
• Proficiency with technology systems administration and process management.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally, and develop feasible solutions under deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Assist with developing and maintaining federal, state, and local requirements for an effective emergency management program.
• Assist with grant program management and grant writing.
• Respond to event/incident scenes or the EOC to support emergency management functions.
• Monitor emergency activities and coordinate with agencies during activations.
• Prepare and maintain preparedness plans (EOP, Multi-Hazard Mitigation).
• Coordinate with government agencies to develop and maintain EOP components.
• Prepare written and oral reports on procedures, projects and activities.
