Job summary

Jefferson Parish seeks an Emergency Management Coordinator II to support the Assistant Director in daily operations, developing and maintaining emergency management plans to ensure public safety. This is a permanent, on-site position in West Bank, LA with strict certification guidelines and a requirement to drive parish

Qualifications

• Current Jefferson Parish employee and permanent civil service status at or above Emergency Management Coordinator I.
• Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Fire Science, Atmospheric Science/Meteorology, Homeland Security, or related field; plus ~1 year emergency management experience (disaster planner, EM educator, etc.) or related field such as law enforcement, EMS, or firefighter response with applicable certification.
• Associate’s degree in a major described in option 2; plus ~3 years emergency management experience in similar roles.
• High school diploma (or equivalent); plus ~5 years emergency management experience in similar roles.
• Applicants must submit proof of active certification in their field (POST, NREMT LIC, or IFSAC Firefighter 1) for eligibility.
• Substitution: Active certification as an Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) may substitute for two years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive emergency management plans and programs to ensure safety and preparedness.
• Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies and community organizations for preparedness, response, and recovery.
• Prepare federal budget and assist in parish budget; prepare monthly expenditure reports for federal funding.
• Work with Homeland Security grant funding and report on funding.
• Assist in activating the Emergency Operations Center and ensure EOC and 911 center readiness.
• This is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved during evacuations.
• Position requires driving a Parish vehicle; valid driver’s license and clean driving record preferred.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Fire Science, Homeland Security or related field

Associate’s degree in a related field

High school diploma with significant emergency management experience
