Job summary

Indiana University Public Safety in Indianapolis seeks an Emergency Management Coordinator to lead all-hazard planning and campus-wide drills, coordinating with university units to strengthen preparedness and response across IU campuses.

You will develop training for students, staff, and faculty, review best practices with internal and external partners, and perform risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and improvement opportunities in campus emergency management and safety.

Department PUBLIC SAFETY (UA-PSIA-IUINA) Department Information

Indiana University (IU) Public Safety pursues the university's commitment to providing the greatest degree of safety for all members of the IU community, consistent with the university's mission and environment, applicable legal and professional standards, and available resources. IU Public Safety directly oversees areas including the IU Police Department, Emergency Management and Continuity, and Fire Safety and Loss Prevention, operating with a team of approximately 300 dedicated staff on a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year operational basis across all campuses.

Job Summary

Responsible for all-hazard emergency planning and coordination of specific projects related to enhancing, improving, promoting, and maintaining emergency management function on campus through coordination with university organizations. Supports and coordinates emergency management drills on campuses to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and university policy. Develops and/or provides emergency preparedness training for students, staff, and faculty, that have been designated as having roles and responsibilities in campus emergency preparedness activities. Works with campus internal and external stakeholders in the review of best practices related to emergency management and public safety for integration into the overall campus planning, training, and exercise activities. Conducts surveys and assessments to evaluate risks, vulnerabilities, and areas where improvement to overall preparedness is needed.

Working Conditions / Demands

The employee in this position will have excellent communication skills. This position is very active and requires moving about the workspace and ascending/descending stairs or ladders. The role requires frequently moving objects that weigh up to 50 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
