Job summary

County of Los Angeles is seeking qualified candidates for emergency Departmental Personnel Assistant positions within the Department of Mental Health to address homelessness-related needs. Qualifications

• One year of experience in a highly specialized capacity assisting in technical personnel work.
• One year of payroll experience at the level of Payroll Clerk I.

Responsibilities

• Maintains personnel files and records of individual employees, including work history, vacations, leaves of absence, probation reports, performance evaluations, appraisals of promotability, status changes, and disciplinary actions.
• Compiles periodic statistical reports providing management with information such as turnover, vacancies, total number employed, and budget needs.
• Interprets salary provisions of the County Code to determine the salary rate applicable in a given set of circumstances.
• Provides information to applicants, explains Civil Service procedure, evaluates applications, clarifies questionable or inadequate information, and attempts to resolve problems affecting eligibility.
• Supervise a small clerical staff in the personnel office.
• Conduct initial interviews of eligible candidates and recommend them for employment.
