Job summary

Norfolk State University’s Police Department invites applicants for the position of Dispatcher/Emergency Coordinator. The Emergency Coordinator performs a variety of communication and operational duties in support of public safety to the University community.

The successful candidate will monitor all audio and video surveillance, operate VCIN/NCIC terminals and two way radios, and handle urgent and routine requests.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to obtain Basic Dispatcher certification within 1 year of hire.
• Proven ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
• Skilled in keyboarding and Microsoft Office.
• Experience in public-facing office settings.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize emergencies and non-emergency calls and disseminate requests for routine or emergency services.
• Monitor audio/video surveillance, VCIN/NCIC terminals and two-way radios.
• Perform responsibilities as essential personnel and be available for 12-hour shifts.
• Communicate policies and procedures clearly and effectively to the public.
• Interact with the university community in a professional manner.
