Job summary

Birmingham is seeking a Public Safety Telecommunicator to support the city’s public safety agency in a high-volume call center. You will receive emergency and non-emergency calls, enter requests into CAD, and forward information to dispatchers.

The role requires operating multiple monitors and software, and providing information to citizens and responders. Work includes 8- or 12-hour shifts, possible overtime, and a background check.

Qualifications

• Experience in a customer service-oriented position.
• Background checks required.
• Willing to work 8- or 12-hour shifts including nights, weekends, holidays.

Responsibilities

• Answer and manage calls to support emergency responders.
• Provide information and referrals to citizens and public safety personnel.
• Operate CAD and other software to enter and forward dispatch data.
• Monitor and relay incident information to dispatchers and agencies.
• Coordinate with utility companies and other external parties as needed.
