Job summary

Fairview is seeking an Emergency Department Technician (EDT) to join our ED team at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN. The EDT assists the professional nurse in delivering patient care, transporting patients and equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and managing supplies.

Schedule: 0.60 FTE (48 hours every two weeks), 12 hour night shifts 7pm-7:30am with an every third weekend rotation.

Qualifications

• Current EMT or ERT certification required.
• Current Paramedic certification required.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on MN Registry required.
• Enrolled in LPN/RN/NP program with at least one clinical semester.
• LPN licensure. Six months of hands-on patient care experience.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients by wheelchair and cart.
• Assists patients with ambulation and positioning.
• Informs RN of patient/family observations and concerns.
• Responds promptly to patient call lights/requests.
• Maintains patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality.
• Assists in room setup, supplies, and cleaning between patients.
• Performs quality control checks on equipment and reports issues.
• Acts as nurse extender to assist with patient care activities.

Job Overview

Fairview is looking for an Emergency Department Technician (EDT) to join our ED team at our Fairview Ridges hospital in Burnsville, MN.

The Emergency Room Technician (EDT) assists the professional nurse in delivering patient care, transporting patients and equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and managing supplies. Depending on unit needs and the discretion of the professional nurse, the EDT may be assigned patient care responsibilities. Located just south of the Twin Cities, Fairview Ridges Hospital is a trusted emergency care destination for families in Burnsville, Apple Valley, Lakeville, Savage, and Eagan. We provide comprehensive, high-quality care for patients of all ages, including a dedicated pediatric emergency department. Our Child-Family Life Specialists, pediatric inpatient unit, and child-friendly spaces ensure every patient and family member receives the care and compassion they deserve.

Job Expectations

Provides patient care:

• Transports patients by wheelchair and cart
• Assists patients with ambulation and positioning
• Informs RN of patient/family observations and concerns
• Promptly responds to patient call lights/requests
• Demonstrates concern for patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality
• Performs tasks with adaptations or modifications consistent with patients ages and developmental abilities
• Obtains ordered specimens from patient
• Transports specimens and blood products
• Demonstrates adherence to proper procedures
• Assists in resuscitation
• Functions as nurse extender: assists nurses with patient care activities

Documents patient care activities and procedures on the nursing records.

• Documentation is clear, concise, accurate and timely

Maintains room/unit and supplies

• Restocks room, supplies, and carts
• Assists with patient room clean-up between patients
• Completes room and cart checklist

Performs quality control checks on designated pieces of equipment

• Completes quality control checklist
• Reports discrepancies and malfunctions to charge nurse or manager

Required Qualifications

• Current EMT or ERT certification
• Current Paramedic certification
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) on the MN Registry
• Enrolled in an LPN, RN, or NP program (with at least 1 completed clinical semester)
• Six months of recent hands-on patient care experience (acute, long-term, or home care)
• Completed Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program
• LPN licensure

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years of Emergency Department experience (EMT, ERT, paramedic, scribe, etc.)
• Current experience as a CNA or NST
