Job summary

Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton is seeking an Emergency Department Technician to join a fast-paced, collaborative ED team. The role supports physicians and nurses, performing EKGs, phlebotomy, wound care, and patient transport to ensure efficient workflow and quality care.

The position offers rotating shifts and requires weekend availability, with a minimum 16 hours per month. A High School diploma and BLS/CPR certification are required, plus computer system experience.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification.
  • Experience with computer systems including web-based applications and MS Office.
  • EMT, Paramedic, Certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant training preferred.
  • Nursing student with clinical rotation or other direct patient care experience.
  • 1-3 years related work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes and completes responsibilities delegated by nurses and physicians in a fast-paced environment.
  • Performs EKGs, phlebotomy, wound care, splinting, crutch walking, and activities of daily living assistance.
  • Performs phlebotomy and specimen collection; communicates results and documents in medical record.
  • Maintains supply inventory; stocks supplies and ensures equipment is cleaned and ready for use.

You’ll join a community-based Emergency Department that delivers high-quality, compassionate care to a diverse patient population. Our ED is fast-paced yet collaborative, fostering a close-knit team environment where adaptability, communication, and mutual respect are essential.

Care is delivered through a geographic, team-based model, with Emergency Department Technicians working as integral members of small care teams. ED Technicians collaborate closely with nurses, attending physicians, and other clinical staff to support patient care activities, assist with procedures, and help ensure efficient workflow and continuity of care throughout the department.

Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
  • Prioritizes and completes responsibilities delegated by nurses and physicians. Maintains a calm and professional demeanor work while working in fast pace, highly demanding environment. (essential)
  • Performs a variety of duties including EKGs, phlebotomy, wound care, splinting, crutch walking, and patient activities of daily living. Assists providers in the delivery of care and assists patients who have physical and psychological limitations, transport patients and specimens.
  • Performs phlebotomy and specimen collection and point of service lab testing according to protocol and quality control standards. Communicates results to the appropriate staff and documents in the medical record.
  • Maintains supply inventory needed to maintain daily operations. Stocks supplies, linen or office goods. Ensures used equipment is cleaned by appropriate process and is ready for the next patient.

Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Basic Life Support certification with American Heart Association
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • EMT, Paramedic, Certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant training
  • Nursing student with completion of one clinical rotation or other direct patient care experience
  • 1-3 years related work experience preferred
Pay Range

$19.50 - $26.24

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
