Job summary

St. Joseph Hospital in Bethpage, part of Catholic Health, seeks an Emergency Department technician to support patient care under R.N. supervision. This role emphasizes ensuring patient safety, data collection, and timely assistance in procedures within a busy ED.

The position requires a CNA certification or EMT-B certification or current nursing student with clinical rotation, plus BLS and basic English literacy; prior ED exposure is preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist in the care of patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

• Perform treatments and procedures per hospital policy.
• Assist with patient admission, transfer and discharge as needed.
• Assist nurse/physician in procedures and treatments as necessary.
• Place patients on cardiac monitors as instructed by staff.
• Handle patient belongings from admission through discharge.
• Act appropriately during emergencies and crises.

Located in Bethpage, St. Joseph Hospital that provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical, critical care and surgical services. Its Emergency Department cares for approximately 33,000 patients a year. Other vital services include an Ambulatory Surgery Unit, The Center for Sleep Medicine, Hyperbaric and Wound Healing Center, CHS Cancer Center, The Center for Speech and Swallowing Disorders, Diabetes Education Center and a full scope of outpatient radiology services, including Cardiac CT.

Responsibilities

The Emergency Department technician assists in the care of patients by performing various dutiesunder the direction of a Registered Nurse. Assists in patient data collection.

• Provides appropriate care to assigned patients.
• Performs treatments and procedures according to established hospital policy and procedures.
• Prepares patient environment for receiving patients.
• Assists in and, as necessary, accompanies patient in the admission, transfer and discharge process.
• Assists the nurse or physician in procedures and treatments as necessary.
• Appropriately places patients on a cardiac monitor as instructed by nursing staff.
• Handles and cares for patients clothing, valuables and other personal property (including prosthetic devices, hearing aides, dentures, glasses, contact lenses, etc.) from admission through discharge.
• Functions appropriately during emergencies and crisis situations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED Required.
• Successful completion of a duly authorized CNA Training program with CNA certification, OR EMT-B certification OR a Nursing Student enrolled in a Nursing program who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing including a clinical rotation.
• Current ED experience is preferred.
• BLS from American Heart Association is required.
• Must be computer literate. Must be able to read and write basic English.

Salary Range

USD $26.46 - USD $26.46 /Hr.
