Job summary

St. Joseph Hospital in Bethpage, part of Catholic Health, seeks an Emergency Department technician to assist in patient care under RN supervision. Responsibilities include data collection, preparing environments, and supporting admissions, transfers and discharges.

The role requires a CNA training with certification or EMT-B, or actively nursing students with clinical exposure; BLS is required and ED experience is preferred. Competitive benefits apply.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CNA Training program with CNA certification, OR EMT-B certification OR a Nursing Student enrolled in a Nursing program who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing including a clinical rotation.
• Current ED experience is preferred.
• BLS from American Heart Association is required.
• Must be computer literate. Must be able to read and write basic English.

Responsibilities

• Provide appropriate care to assigned patients.
• Perform treatments and procedures according to hospital policy.
• Prepare patient environment for receiving patients.
• Assist in admission, transfer and discharge process as needed.
• Assist nurse or physician in procedures and treatments as necessary.
• Place patients on a cardiac monitor as instructed by nursing staff.
• Handle patient clothing and personal belongings from admission to discharge.
• Act appropriately during emergencies and crisis situations.

Located in Bethpage, St. Joseph Hospital that provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical, critical care and surgical services. Its Emergency Department cares for approximately 33,000 patients a year. Other vital services include an Ambulatory Surgery Unit, The Center for Sleep Medicine, Hyperbaric and Wound Healing Center, CHS Cancer Center, The Center for Speech and Swallowing Disorders, Diabetes Education Center and a full scope of outpatient radiology services, including Cardiac CT.

Job Details

Responsibilities:

The Emergency Department technician assists in the care of patients by performing various dutiesunder the direction of a Registered Nurse. Assists in patient data collection.

• Provides appropriate care to assigned patients.
• Performs treatments and procedures according to established hospital policy and procedures.
• Prepares patient environment for receiving patients.
• Assists in and, as necessary, accompanies patient in the admission, transfer and discharge process.
• Assists the nurse or physician in procedures and treatments as necessary.
• Appropriately places patients on a cardiac monitor as instructed by nursing staff.
• Handles and cares for patients clothing, valuables and other personal property (including prosthetic devices, hearing aides, dentures, glasses, contact lenses, etc.) from admission through discharge.
• Functions appropriately during emergencies and crisis situations.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED Required.
• Successful completion of a duly authorized CNA Training program with CNA certification, OR EMT-B certification OR a Nursing Student enrolled in a Nursing program who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing including a clinical rotation.
• Current ED experience is preferred.
• BLS from American Heart Association is required.
• Must be computer literate. Must be able to read and write basic English.

Salary Range

USD $25.18 - USD $25.18 /Hr.
