Job summary

St. Joseph Hospital in Bethpage, NY is seeking an Emergency Department technician to assist in patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

You will collect patient data, prepare the environment for care, and support the admission, transfer, and discharge process with the team. Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, CNA training with certification or EMT-B or a nursing student with clinical rotation, BLS certification, and basic computer literacy.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS from American Heart Association required.
• CNA training with certification OR EMT-B OR nursing student with clinical rotation.
• Current ED experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides appropriate care to assigned patients.
• Performs treatments and procedures according to established hospital policy and procedures.
• Prepares patient environment for receiving patients.
• Assists in admission, transfer and discharge processes as necessary.
• Assists nurse or physician in procedures and treatments as necessary.
• Places patients on cardiac monitors as instructed by nursing staff.
• Handles patients' belongings from admission through discharge.
• Functions appropriately during emergencies and crises.

Located in Bethpage, St. Joseph Hospital that provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient medical, critical care and surgical services. Its Emergency Department cares for approximately 33,000 patients a year. Other vital services include an Ambulatory Surgery Unit, The Center for Sleep Medicine, Hyperbaric and Wound Healing Center, CHS Cancer Center, The Center for Speech and Swallowing Disorders, Diabetes Education Center and a full scope of outpatient radiology services, including Cardiac CT.

Responsibilities

The Emergency Department technician assists in the care of patients by performing various duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Assists in patient data collection.

• Provides appropriate care to assigned patients.
• Performs treatments and procedures according to established hospital policy and procedures.
• Prepares patient environment for receiving patients.
• Assists in and, as necessary, accompanies patient in the admission, transfer and discharge process.
• Assists the nurse or physician in procedures and treatments as necessary.
• Appropriately places patients on a cardiac monitor as instructed by nursing staff.
• Handles and cares for patients clothing, valuables and other personal property (including prosthetic devices, hearing aides, dentures, glasses, contact lenses, etc.) from admission through discharge.
• Functions appropriately during emergencies and crisis situations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED Required.
• Successful completion of a duly authorized CNA Training program with CNA certification, OR EMT-B certification OR a Nursing Student enrolled in a Nursing program who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing including a clinical rotation.
• Current ED experience is preferred.
• BLS from American Heart Association is required.
• Must be computer literate. Must be able to read and write basic English.

Salary Range

USD $25.18 - USD $25.18 /Hr.
