Job summary

UnityPoint Health seeks an ED Support Associate for weekend night shifts (12-hour nights, Sat/Sun, 48/52 rotation) in Cedar Rapids, IA. You will assist RNs and physicians with non-invasive clinical tasks, monitor vital signs, and manage patient transport and comfort under supervision.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least 1 year of clinical experience preferred.
  • EMT-B certification required (IADPH/IDPH/WI DHS accepted).
  • BLS certification preferred; CPI/MOAB training within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with RNs and care team to support care plans and patient outcomes.
  • Accurately obtain, monitor, and document vital signs and clinical data in the EMR.
  • Deliver non-invasive clinical and clerical support in the Emergency Department under RN/physician direction.
  • Perform EKGs, assist with patient transport, and support activities of daily living.
  • Prepare, maintain, and ensure proper functioning of clinical equipment and treatment areas.
  • Maintain precise, timely documentation in the EMR per regulatory standards.
  • Promote a safe, clean care environment following infection prevention protocols.
  • Demonstrate effective clinical communication and teamwork.
  • Adapt to fast-paced, high-acuity environment with sound judgment.

Overview

Weekend Package: 12-hour night shift Saturday/Sunday 48/52 rotation.

Responsible for a variety of tasks and services to assist in the provision of basic, non-invasive clinical and clerical support in the Emergency Department under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and physicians. Plays an important role in patient care by assisting with vital signs, transport, patient hygiene, equipment setup, and environmental cleanliness to ensure a safe and efficient care environment. Reports and records observations and contribute to the efficient functionality of the department.

  • Deliver non-invasive clinical and clerical support within the Emergency Department under RN and physician direction
  • Perform EKGs,assistwith patient transport, and support activities of daily living while ensuring patient comfort and dignity
  • Prepare,maintain, and ensure proper functioning of clinical equipment and treatment areas
  • Maintain precise,timelydocumentation in the electronic health recordin accordance withregulatory standards
  • Promote a safe, clean, and compliant care environment following infection prevention and safety protocols
  • Effective clinical communication and strong interdisciplinary teamwork
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment with sound judgment
  • High attention to detail with strong clinical documentation practices

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED

Experience:

  • At least one year of clinical experience-Preferred

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Required (Upon Hire or Preferred):
    • Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B) certification
      • Accepted from: Iowa Department of Public Health (IADPH), Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), or Wisconsin Department of Health Services (WI DHS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)(preferred upon hire;requiredwithin 30 days)
  • Required Within 90 Days of Hire:
    • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification
    • Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training
    • Mandatory Reporter Training (as applicable to state of practice):
      • Child Abuse Reporting (IA and/or IL)
      • Dependent Adult Abuse Reporting (IA and/or IL)
