Job summary

St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, Idaho is seeking an Emergency Department Technician to support nursing and provider staff in the ED. You will monitor vitals, assist with procedures, and help maintain a safe care environment.

The role requires strong communication, ability to work in a fast-paced setting, and proficiency with basic computer documentation. Training and mentorship are available to new grads.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required or preferred.
  • EMT, CNA, CMA or equivalent clinical training upon hire.
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support upon Hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care including vital signs monitoring under supervision.
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms and report abnormalities.
  • Assist with Point of Care Testing and phlebotomy.
  • Perform catheter insertion/removal as directed (Paramedic Only).
  • Assist with patient transport and safety.
  • Document patient care activities accurately and timely.
  • Maintain downtime procedures and documentation.
  • Respond to call bells and assist patient needs.

Job Summary

The Emergency Department Technician provides direct and indirect patient care in support of nursing and provider staff in the Emergency Department. Responsibilities include monitoring cardiac rhythms, collecting specimens, assisting with procedures, and performing clerical duties as needed. Maintains a safe, clean, and organized care environment while adhering to infection control protocols and safety guidelines.

Essential Functions
  • Provides direct patient care including vital signs monitoring, ambulation, and basic hygiene care under the supervision of the RN or provider.
  • Monitors cardiac rhythms and reports any abnormalities to the nursing staff.
  • Assists with Point of Care Testing (Accu-Checks), phlebotomy, and specimen collection as directed.
  • Performs catheter insertion and removal as directed by RN (Paramedic Only).
  • Assists with patient transport and ensures patient safety during transport.
  • Completes accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with downtime procedures and required documentation.
  • Responds to patient call systems in a timely manner and assists with patient needs.
  • Supports unit operations by maintaining adequate stock of supplies and assisting with inventory control.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA regulations.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications for documentation purposes.
  • Knowledge of infection control practices and safety protocols.
  • EKG Competency required within timeframe required by facility policy
  • O2 Assessment may be required within timeframe required by facility policy
Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent including education equivalent to completion of secondary school or demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the role. (Preferred)
Licenses/Certifications
  • EMT - Emergency Medical Tech state certified Upon Hire (Required) Or
  • CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Patient Care Tech Upon Hire (Required) Or
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)-AAMA state registered Upon Hire (Required) Or
  • Other: Equivalent clinical training with demonstrated care competencies Upon Hire (Required) And
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire (Required)
Experience
  • Prior Experience in a hospital, emergency care setting, or similar clinical environment (Preferred) And
  • Prior Experience Experience with patient care, vital signs monitoring, and specimen collection (Preferred)
