Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking an Emergency Department Tech in Palos Heights to support RN staff in patient care within a fast-paced ED. The role includes phlebotomy, ECGs, wound care, and specimen handling, with emphasis on safety and accurate documentation.

The position is full-time with a 72-hour/pay period schedule, mid-shift 11:00 a.m.–11:30 p.m. and alternating weekends and holidays. Benefits and ongoing training are highlighted in the posting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Previous patient care experience.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Provides wound care.
• Assists with splinting and orthopedic devices.
• Performs ECGs and phlebotomy in addition to specimen collection (urine, stool, sputum).
• Labels and processes specimens according to established protocols and policies.
• Performs bedside waived testing procedures and maintains annual competency.
• Prepares patient and room for MD or RN assessment; may require lifting and positioning.
• Obtains vital signs and monitors them.
• Applies cardiac monitor/pulse oximetry.
• Transports and/or retrieves patients, specimens, equipment and supplies.
• Documents care in the medical record.
• Performs CPR.
