Job summary

Grace Cottage Family Health & Hospital seeks an experienced Emergency Room nurse to provide prioritized patient care in urgent and emergent situations, while maintaining a global department perspective.

Responsibilities include triage, patient assessment, coordinating with the care team, medication administration, and patient education. Strong teamwork and independent work ability are essential, with night shifts required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
• Current Vermont RN license in good standing.
• Two-three years’ experience in Emergency Nursing.
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS.
• TNCC, ENPC, and CEN preferred.
• Computer skills and familiarity with using an electronic medical record.
• Excellent customer services skills.
• Strong team player and ability to function autonomously.
• Must be willing to work nights.

Responsibilities

• Performs triage using the Emergency Severity Index to determine urgency.
• Maintain knowledge of Incident Command Structure during crises.
• Coordinate with health care team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care.
• Manage basic life support needs per nursing standards and protocol.
• Monitor and adjust equipment; interpret and record ECG/respiratory data.
• Document vital signs and care information accurately and timely.
• Assist Providers during exams, tests and treatments.
• Prepare and administer medications, ensure proper patient identification.
• Provide patient education on post-treatment care and referrals.

Job Summary:

Requirements

Essential Functions Of The Position:

• Performs triage using the Emergency Severity Index, while considering both physical and psychosocial elements to determine the degree of urgency for treatment.
• Maintains a strong understanding of the Incident Command Structure and can operate fluidly
• within it, maintaining patient and facility safety during an internal or external crisis.
• Collects current symptoms, as well as a detailed patient history and then consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient plans of care and treatment.
• Manages basic life support needs, based upon GCFHH nursing standards and protocol.
• Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients, and interprets and records
• electronic displays including but not limited to; Cardiac monitoring, EKG monitoring, respiratory ventilators, non-invasive positive pressure machines and high flow nasal cannula.
• Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse
• symptomatology within the GCFHH nursing standing orders in addition to notifying the Provider.
• Records patients’ vital signs and all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
• Works directly under Providers, assisting them during exams, diagnostic testing and treatments
• Prepares and administers medications and records medication administration appropriately, including scanning patient identification and medications.
• Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse.
• Maintains proper supplies and appropriate medical equipment to care for patients.
• Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician. Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury, by explaining: post-treatment home care needs, diet/nutrition/exercise programs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation, as well as provides referrals to other healthcare professionals for follow-up treatment.
• Displays professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks in a timely manner.
• Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.
