Job summary

Grace Cottage Family Health & Hospital is seeking an experienced RN for ED and inpatient coverage in a part-time role. The position emphasizes urgent and emergent patient care with a strong emphasis on triage, assessment, and collaboration with the health care team.

The right candidate will have Vermont RN licensure, 2–3 years in Emergency Nursing, and current BLS/ACLS/PALS. Nights may be required as part of the schedule. Strong teamwork and autonomous practice are essential.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
• Current Vermont RN license in good standing.
• Two-three years’ experience in Emergency Nursing.
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, required.
• TNCC, ENPC, and CEN preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs triage using the Emergency Severity Index, considering physical and psychosocial elements to determine urgency.
• Maintains understanding of the Incident Command Structure and operates within it during crises.
• Collects patient symptoms and history, coordinates with care team to plan and evaluate care.
• Prepares and administers medications; documents administration and scans IDs.
• Initiates patient education and discharge planning per physician directive.
• Performs other position-related duties as assigned.

This position will consist of ED and inpatient hours. 24 hours per week ED/ 12 inpatient

Job Summary:

Primary responsibility is to provide strong, prioritized patient care in a variety of urgent or emergent situations while maintaining a global perspective of the department.

Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred. Current Vermont RN license in good standing. Two-three years’ experience in Emergency Nursing. Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, required. TNCC, ENPC, and CEN preferred.

Other Requirements: Computer skills and familiarity with using an electronic medical record essential. Excellent customer services skills. Strong team player and ability to function autonomously. Must be willing to work nights.

Requirements

Essential Functions Of The Position:

• Performs triage using the Emergency Severity Index, while considering both physical and psychosocial elements to determine the degree of urgency for treatment.
• Maintains a strong understanding of the Incident Command Structure and can operate fluidly
• within it, maintaining patient and facility safety during an internal or external crisis.
• Collects current symptoms, as well as a detailed patient history and then consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient plans of care and treatment.
• Manages basic life support needs, based upon GCFHH nursing standards and protocol.
• Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients, and interprets and records
• electronic displays including but not limited to; Cardiac monitoring, EKG monitoring, respiratory ventilators, non-invasive positive pressure machines and high flow nasal cannula.
• Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse
• symptomatology within the GCFHH nursing standing orders in addition to notifying the Provider.
• Records patients’ vital signs and all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
• Works directly under Providers, assisting them during exams, diagnostic testing and treatments
• Prepares and administers medications and records medication administration appropriately, including scanning patient identification and medications.
• Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse.
• Maintains proper supplies and appropriate medical equipment to care for patients.
• Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician. Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury, by explaining: post-treatment home care needs, diet/nutrition/exercise programs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation, as well as provides referrals to other healthcare professionals for follow-up treatment.
• Displays professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks in a timely manner.
• Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.
