Job summary

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering competent, evidence-based care to patients with acute and chronic conditions in the VA ED. This role includes directing and supervising nursing staff, coordinating education and performance improvement, and working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to achieve optimal outcomes.

Qualifications

• English language proficiency required by VA rules.
• Graduate of an approved nursing school with eligible licensure.
• Current, full, active RN license in the US or DC.
• BSN preferred; bridge/master's options may apply.
• Foreign degree equivalency not required for US staffing.

Responsibilities

• Provide competent, evidence-based nursing care to ED patients.
• Supervise LPNs and unlicensed staff; coordinate care.
• Lead education, orientation, and competency development.
• Deliver urgent and emergent care across medical, surgical, and psychiatric presentations.
• Participate in quality improvement and outcomes measurement.
