Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Health is seeking an ED Registration Clerk to register patients in the adult and pediatric emergency departments and complete the discharge process for liabilities. You will gather demographics, insurance information, and ensure accurate record creation in a fast-paced setting.

This role supports observation or admission workflows, collects payments, and collaborates with clinical partners to maintain smooth patient flow and service quality.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• College courses in Business, Medical Office Administration, Health Care Administration, and/or Computer Technology preferred.
• 2 years insurance/clerical experience within a hospital or medical office setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Registers emergency service patients in a fast-paced environment, creating patient accounts within 90 seconds of arrival.
• Queries EAD and enters accurate patient demographics to obtain MRN and account number.
• Places patient identification armbands after accounts are created to ensure patient safety.
• Obtains demographic, guarantor, and insurance information and documents it into the registration system.
• Obtains physician orders for observation/admission to support services rendered.
• Performs insurance eligibility/benefit verification and documents in the registration system.
• Informs patient/guarantor of liabilities and collects co-pays, co-insurances, deductibles, and deposits at discharge.
• Provides timely coverage of the assigned work area to ensure prompt service for all registration needs.
• Other duties as assigned.
