Job summary

Addison Group is seeking an Emergency Department Registration Representative in Chicago, IL. You will be the first contact for patients, collecting demographic and insurance information and registering them accurately in the EHR to support billing.

The role requires prior ED registration experience, familiarity with EPIC or Cerner, and strong data-entry and communication skills. Work hours are 3:00 PM–11:00 PM with some overtime; onsite interview and background checks apply.

Qualifications

• Prior Emergency Department Registration experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience with electronic health record systems (EPIC or Cerner) is highly preferred.
• Strong computer skills, data-entry speed, and organizational abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Experience in a busy hospital registration/admitting role is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with registration and admitting processes.
• Collect and verify demographic, insurance, and other required information.
• Make telephone inquiries to obtain missing data.
• Enter and update patient data in the EHR accurately.
• Ensure registrations are complete and correct for billing accuracy.
• Protect patient privacy and comply with HIPAA.

Job Description

The Emergency Department Registration Representative will serve as one of the first points of contact for patients entering the emergency department and admitting areas. This position focuses on accurately collecting patient information, completing registrations, supporting billing accuracy, and providing professional service in a fast-paced healthcare setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist patients with the registration and admitting process.
• Gather and verify demographic, insurance, and other required patient information.
• Conduct telephone interactions with patients when additional information is needed.
• Enter and update patient data accurately within the electronic health record system.
• Review registrations for missing or incorrect information and make timely corrections.
• Support accurate billing by ensuring patient accounts contain complete information.
• Protect confidential patient information and follow healthcare privacy requirements.
• Deliver professional, compassionate customer service in a high-volume environment.
• Collaborate with hospital staff to resolve registration or information-related issues.

Qualifications

• Previous Emergency Department Registration experience strongly preferred.
• Experience using EPIC is highly preferred; Cerner experience may also be considered.
• Strong computer, data-entry, and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Comfortable working in a busy emergency department environment.
• Previous hospital registration, patient access, or admitting experience preferred.
• Candidates should be able to clearly explain any employment gaps or short-term positions on their resume.
• Professional references who can speak positively about previous performance are preferred.

Additional Details

• One onsite interview is required.
• Training typically lasts a couple of weeks and will be completed on a 2:00 PM–10:00 PM schedule.
• Start date is dependent on completion of onboarding, IT access, and required system training.
• Upon conditional offer of employment, the position requires a background check and drug screening.
