Job summary

UNC Health Appalachian is seeking an experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) for Watauga Medical Center in Boone, North Carolina. This full-time role offers 12-hour shifts (3:00 PM–3:00 AM) and the opportunity to care for critically ill or recovering patients in a high-acuity emergency department.

You will administer medications and therapies per protocol, collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams, document in the EMR, and participate in safety and quality

Qualifications

• Graduated from an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
• Current RN license in North Carolina (or compact state).
• BLS required at hire; ACLS/PALS within 12 months.
• Previous RN experience required.
• Strong judgment, adaptability, and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to safety, ethics, and patient dignity.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care to critically ill or recovering patients.
• Use the nursing process (assess, plan, implement, evaluate) to guide care from admission to discharge.
• Monitor and respond quickly to changes in patient condition, mobilizing resources as needed.
• Safely administer medications, treatments, and therapies according to protocols.
• Partner with physicians, APPs, and interdisciplinary teams to achieve the best outcomes.
• Provide compassionate education and support to patients and families in critical moments.
• Document accurately and timely in the EMR.
