Job summary

Community Health Systems is seeking a Paramedic for its Emergency Department to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care across populations. The role involves advanced life support, rapid assessment, and physician/nurse collaboration in a fast-paced setting.

The Paramedic will document care in the EMR, assist with procedures and imaging, and support patient throughput while maintaining safety and compassionate communication with patients and families.

Qualifications

• Technical School completion of an accredited Paramedic program required.
• Associate Degree in Emergency Medical Services preferred.
• 0-2 years EMT-P experience required.
• Experience in hospital ED is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Performs clinical care and technical procedures within state and national scope of practice, including vital signs, IV insertion, wound care, splinting, and cardiac monitoring.
• Assists physicians and nurses with emergency procedures, including resuscitation efforts and trauma care.
• Recognizes and promptly reports changes in patient condition and supports appropriate clinical responses.
• Administers medications safely and accurately under established protocols, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to the five rights of medication administration.
• Documents all care and observations accurately in the EMR in a timely manner.
• Collaborates with the nursing team to prioritize care, support patient throughput, and promote a coordinated patient experience.
• Prepares patients for procedures and diagnostic imaging, ensuring comfort, safety, and understanding of interventions.
• Maintains, cleans, and stocks supplies and emergency department equipment, reporting any malfunctions or shortages.
• Demonstrates critical thinking in responding to emergent situations and performs advanced life support interventions as necessary.
• Provides clear, empathetic communication with patients and families to support understanding and reduce anxiety.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
