Job summary

Atlantic Health System seeks a Patient Care Technician to assist nurses and physicians in triage and initial assessment in the Emergency Department. You will help with vital signs, EKG monitoring, specimen collection, and basic EMT tasks while upholding infection control standards.

You will coordinate with the triage team, communicate priorities to the charge nurse, and participate in training new staff to ensure safe, efficient patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Basic EMT skills: dressings, ice, splinting, elevation.
• Initiates EKG per trigger guidelines.
• Assists triage nurse with vital signs, urine samples, and blood glucose.
• Maintains isolation precautions and PPE stocking.
• Educates and supervises new technicians.
• Communicates priorities with Charge Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Assists nurse/physician with triage and primary assessment of patient and notifies triage/charge/primary nurse.
• Greets patients and assists triage nurse with v/s, EKGs, urine specimens, and blood glucose.
• Performs basic EMT skills: dressings, ice, splinting, elevation.
• Initiates EKG according to trigger guidelines; performs blood glucose.
• Maintains infection control, PPE stocking, and isolation precautions.
• Participates in education and supervision of new staff technicians.
• Acts as resource on role of technicians in the E.D.; supports problem resolution.
• Assists with disinfecting stretchers and Rinses soiled trays prior to cleaning.
