Job summary

The City of Riverside is seeking a Communications Officer to handle emergency and non-emergency calls for police and fire, providing critical information to responders and citizens. The role includes dispatching personnel, maintaining logs, and data entry across department systems.

Ideal candidates will be 18+, have a high school diploma or GED, and be able to work rotating shifts, including nights and holidays.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Typing 30 wpm preferred.
• Clean criminal record required.
• Willing to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Responsibilities

• Answer emergency and non-emergency calls promptly and professionally.
• Gather information to transmit or relay to responders.
• Dispatch personnel, equipment and services as needed.
• Maintain manual and automated logs of communications.
• Input data to department and law enforcement databases and forms.
• Monitor weather warnings and city alarms; watch security cameras.
• Potentially participate in outreach with Special Olympics, Fire/Police Athletic League, and Shop with a Cop/Firefighter.
