Job summary

Douglas County is seeking candidates to fill open position(s) and establish an eligibility list for a Dispatch role in Superior, Wisconsin. The incumbent will operate communications equipment, answer calls, and dispatch police, fire, and public service units in a 24/7 operation.

Entry-level employees receive classroom and on-the-job training, must complete EMT dispatcher certification within the first year, and undergo a mandatory audio-keyboarding exam. A high school diploma or GED is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Entry-level exam to be administered to all qualifying applicants.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of telecommunications equipment including transceivers, radio consoles, telephones, teletype, and computer systems.
• Answer emergency and non-emergency calls and prioritize requests for assistance.
• Read and interpret maps to locate emergency areas and give directions to responders.
• Dispatch and coordinate responses of public safety agencies.
• Provide pre-arrival instructions for emergency medical calls.
• Maintain detailed records of dispatch activities.
• Participate in training and perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
