Job summary

The City of Saint Charles seeks a Police Dispatcher to join the Police Department's Communications Center. You will answer emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch police, fire and EMS, and relay information to officers and responders during incidents.

This full-time, non-exempt position starts at $28.14 per hour and includes benefits such as medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, retirement plans and paid leave.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years of responsible experience working with the public preferred.
• Missouri Certified Telecommunicator or ability to obtain certification within six months of appointment.
• Must possess or obtain a valid state driver’s license by time of hire.
• Any combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Answers emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and surrounding agencies; dispatches police personnel and notifies fire or EMS as needed.
• Prioritizes calls based on urgency.
• Maintains telephone contact with callers during dangerous situations.
• Tracks status of police and other emergency personnel and coordinates resources.
• Provides information to officers and uses computer databases during traffic stops and investigations.
• Relays information to other agencies via computer and radio and dispatches personnel from towing/public works as required.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Vocational/technical training in office automation applications (preferred)
