Job summary

City of San Luis Obispo's Public Safety Dispatch Center seeks a lateral dispatcher to operate radio systems, answer emergency and non-emergency calls, and provide pre-arrival medical instructions. The role requires calm communication and the ability to work independently with rotating shifts.

Qualified candidates will have at least one year of dispatching experience for a Public Safety Agency. POST certification and CAD familiarity are preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of current computer and cellular phone technology.
• Familiarity with California law and City ordinances.
• Ability to learn standard broadcasting procedures of a law enforcement radio system.
• POST Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Course certificate within one year.

Responsibilities

• Receives information from the public via phone and 9-1-1 text.
• Monitors radio frequencies for police, fire, and public works.
• Uses computer programs to provide resource information to units and the public.
• Dispatches emergency resources per established policies and procedures.
• Provides medical pre-arrival instructions using dispatch protocols.
