Job summary

The City of St. Joseph is seeking a Communications Operator for the Police Department to receive emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch police, fire or sheriff responders, and operate 911 lines and the CAD system.

You will maintain records, coordinate with hospitals and utilities, and ensure accurate documentation in the CAD system. The role requires confidentiality, the ability to work under stress, and completion of dispatcher training and MULES certification.

Qualifications

• Requires typing ability and ability to complete a keyboarding test.
• Knowledge of local streets and geography.
• Able to make quick decisions in stressful situations.
• Must obtain MULES certification and dispatcher training.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and answer emergency 911, Text-to-911 and non-emergency calls.
• Dispatch public safety responses for police, fire and sheriff's departments.
• Enter and update records in the CAD system and coordinate with other agencies.
