Job summary

The Walton County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Communications Officer to provide critical 911 and non-emergency call handling and dispatch support. You will calm upset callers, gather essential information, and coordinate resource deployment while maintaining accurate logs and interoperability with field units.

Work requires staying current with dispatch policies, ongoing training, and the ability to multitask in high-stress situations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum 18 years of age.
• Valid Driver License.
• Type at least 20 words per minute.
• Florida Safe Telecommunicator Certification within 1 year of hire.
• Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification from IAED.
• Emergency Fire Dispatch Certification from IAED.

Responsibilities

• Answer 911 and non-emergency calls with calm, professional demeanor and gather essential information.
• Coordinate dispatch of field units and monitor activity to ensure timely response.
• Maintain accurate dispatch logs and incident records and update agencies as needed.
• Use CAD and radio systems to disseminate information to deputies and other responders.
• Ensure appropriate resource deployment based on priority, location, and information received.
