Job summary

Essentia Health is seeking a patient care support role in Emergency Services Behavioral Health at St. Marys Medical Center.

You will assist with assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of technical tasks under nursing leadership, delivering both direct and indirect care for patients from pre-adolescents to geriatrics. The role emphasizes age-appropriate activities, safety, de-escalation, and teamwork to ensure compliant, compassionate care.

Qualifications

• Degree in social services field or related experience.
• 1 year of experience with mental health symptoms or related field.
• Certified Peer Support Specialist in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
• Internship in behavioral health as part of degree program within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist with assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation under RN supervision.
• Provide direct and indirect care to support patient needs.
• Perform hygiene, nutrition support, vital signs, and recordkeeping.
• Offer age-appropriate activities aligned with care plans.
• Support safety on unit using de-escalation techniques.
• Participate in group activities coordinated by psychotherapy and nursing.
• Collaborate with care team under Essentia Health management and physician.
