Job summary

X4 Engineering seeks an experienced EMC Laboratory Manager to lead our EMC testing operations in our Baltimore, MD facility, overseeing day-to-day lab activities and accreditation maintenance.

You will manage engineers, collaborate with senior stakeholders, and drive initiatives such as chamber builds and equipment upgrades.

The role requires deep RF/electronics expertise and strong leadership, with about 30% travel to other lab sites and client engagements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years hands-on EMC testing/compliance, including 5+ years in a managerial role.
  • Experience with FCC Part 15C/E, Parts 22/24/27 and CISPR/ISO standards.
  • Active involvement in EMC/automotive standards committees (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Direct day-to-day operations of the EMC lab and supervise staff.
  • Ensure test delivery meets client requirements and quality standards.
  • Oversee maintenance, calibration, and upgrades of RF equipment; lead capex planning.
  • Serve as technical authority on regulatory standards (FCC, ISED, CE/RED) and CISPR/ISO.
  • Maintain ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation; lead audit preparation.
  • Partner with automotive OEM clients on test plans and compliance troubleshooting.
  • Mentor engineers and review high-stakes test reports.
  • Enforce lab safety protocols, including high-voltage RF safety.

Job description

We're seeking an experienced EMC Laboratory Manager to lead our Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing operations - running day-to-day lab activities, maintaining accreditation, and driving infrastructure projects like chamber builds and equipment upgrades. The ideal candidate pairs deep RF/electronics expertise with the leadership skills to manage engineers, work with senior stakeholders, and support key automotive clients.

What You’ll Do
  • Direct day-to-day operations of the EMC testing lab, including full supervisory responsibility for staff (hiring, scheduling, performance management)
  • Ensure test delivery meets client requirements and internal quality standards
  • Oversee maintenance, calibration, and upgrades of RF measurement equipment; lead capital expenditure planning
  • Serve as technical authority on commercial regulatory standards (FCC, ISED, CE/RED) and automotive OEM standards (CISPR 25, ISO 11452, ISO 7637)
  • Maintain ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation; lead audit prep and represent the lab during assessments
  • Partner with automotive OEM clients on test plans and compliance troubleshooting
  • Mentor engineers/technicians and review high-stakes test reports before client delivery
  • Enforce lab safety protocols, including high-voltage and high-power RF safety
What You’ll Need
Required:
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, RF/Microwave Electronics, Physics, or related field
  • 10+ years hands-on EMC testing/compliance experience, including 5+ years in a managerial role at an accredited lab
  • Experience with both commercial regulatory certification and automotive OEM standards
  • Familiarity with FCC radio product standards (Part 15C&E, Parts 22/24/27)
Preferred:
  • Active involvement in EMC/automotive standards committees (IEEE, SAE, CISPR)
Skills:
  • Strong, decisive leadership and problem-solving
  • Excellent communication — able to translate technical topics for non-technical stakeholders
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • ~30% travel for other lab sites, client meetings, and OEM alignment sessions
