Job summary

Archer Aviation, based in San Jose, CA, is designing an all-electric VTOL aircraft for sustainable air mobility. We seek an EMI/EMC engineer to design, analyze, and test EMI filters, performing in-depth simulations and providing layout and grounding guidance to the electrical and mechanical teams.

Responsibilities include working with EMC test labs to achieve DO-160G/MIL 461G compliance and supporting aircraft‑level pre‑compliance testing.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in EMI analysis/simulation for power electronics.
  • Experience with circuit simulation tools and Ansys EM tools.
  • Familiarity with EMI testing equipment and standards DO-160/MIL-461/CISPR.
  • EMC pre‑compliance and certifications in aerospace/automotive preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design/analyze/test EMI filters for Archer products.
  • Perform circuit and FEM simulations for emissions, susceptibility, ESD, and lightning.
  • Provide EMC recommendations for PCB layout, shielding, grounding.
  • Collaborate with EMC Test Engineers to certify products for DO-160/MIL 461G.
  • Coordinate with testing labs for aircraft level pre‑compliance.

Job description

Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. Responsibilities
  • Design/Analyze/Test EMI Filters for various Archer Products. Provide inputs regarding value selection, orientation of components, board layout guidelines and grounding strategies for EMI Filters.
  • Perform in-depth Circuit and FEM Simulations for Emissions, Susceptibility, ESD and lightning strikes.
  • Provide detailed EMC recommendations to Electrical, Power Electronics and Mechanical Engineers for PCB board layout/Cable shielding strategies, enclosure designs, grounding etc.
  • Work closely with EMC Test Engineers to design/test/certify various Archer Products for DO-160G/MIL 461G.
  • Work with EMC test labs for Aircraft level and DO-160/MIL 461G pre-compliance/compliance for Archer Products.
Requirements
  • Strong background in EMI Analysis/Simulation of Power Electronics/Electric Circuits.
  • Solid knowledge and usage of Circuit Simulation tools (MATLAB, PLECS, PSIM etc.) and Ansys EM tools (Q3D, SIWave, HFSS and Maxwell)
  • Detailed Understanding of various EMC Equipment such as LISNs, Antennas, BCI Probes, EMI test receivers, Spectrum Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, Vector Network Analyzer, Impedance Analyzer etc.
  • Familiarity with various standards such as DO-160, MIL-461, CISPR 12/16/25/32, UN ECE Regulation 10, FCC Part 15/18 etc.
Bonus Qualifications
  • Prior EMC Per-Compliance and Certification experience in Aerospace (DO 160 or MIL 461) /Automotive Industry (FCC or UN ECE Reg 10).
  • Detailed Understanding about SI/PI – Design/Simulation and Measurement.
  • Experience with analysis/design/test with Active EMI filters.

Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
